Discord glossary
Channel
A place inside a server for one kind of conversation: text, voice, forum, stage, or announcements.
Text channels hold chat, voice channels hold live audio and video, forum channels organize threads into titled posts, stage channels host talks with an audience, and announcement channels can be followed by other servers.
Channels are grouped into categories, and each channel can override permissions for specific roles.
